Yes, IYRS is a private, not-for-profit, accredited institution, and students are eligible for U.S. Federal financial aid, as well as need-based and merit-based financial aid from the institution. Additionally, IYRS offers robust scholarship & grant opportunities to help ensure an IYRS education is affordable and accessible.

What training programs does IYRS offer?

Currently IYRS offers four full-time, fully-immersive training programs; Boatbuilding & Restoration (20-month program), Composites Technology (6-month program), Digital Modeling & Fabrication (9-month program), Marine Systems (6-month program).

What are the application requirements?

After filling out the online application, applicants work directly with an admissions representative through the admissions process. Applicants should begin to gather an official high school transcript, GED or college transcript, two letter of recommendations, as well as a resume or portfolio. While not required, a campus visit prior to enrollment is recommended.

Where is IYRS?

IYRS has a 3-acre waterfront campus in downtown Newport, Rhode Island. The community has a long and accessible history of making and building, especially as it relates to boats, buildings and the military. It is rich in activity, drawing students and visitors from all over the world whilst maintaining a vibrant local community-feel year round.

Does IYRS offer housing?

IYRS does not have dorms, though the real estate rental market is active and robust. The Student Services team offers resources and support to secure housing within walking and biking distance, if desired.

What are the class sizes?

IYRS caps all program enrollment to ensure a positive, hands-on experience for all students. Typically the student to faculty ratio ranges from 10:1 – 12:1.

Are IYRS programs degree-granting?

IYRS offers accredited certificate programs; included within most programs are opportunities to sit for gold-standard industry certifications, positioning graduates to enter the workforce.

Does IYRS offer career services?

Yes, IYRS has a vigorous career services curriculum for each and every student which is integrated right in to the IYRS student experience. All students will have the opportunity to enhance their skills by completing an off-site externship at the completion of their program. IYRS continues to grow its base of employer relationships to benefit student career exploration.

Can I use my Veteran’s Benefits?

Yes, IYRS is certified to accept G.I. Bill benefits for eligible U.S. Military Veterans. Veterans who qualify for the Post-9/11 G.I. Bill (Chapter 33), the Montgomery G.I. Bill (Chapter 30) and Veterans’ Vocational Rehabilitation Programs (Chapter 31) may use their benefits at IYRS.

What is the student body like at IYRS?

IYRS is a post-secondary school with students of all ages, post-high school. Students come to IYRS with a host of interests, backgrounds and motivations; they are high school graduates, U.S. Military Veterans, career changers, international students, and hobbyists.

What does “IYRS” stand for?

IYRS was founded in 1995 as the International Yacht Restoration School. The school discovered that its true strength is a hands-on learning model wrapped in career skills development that allowed IYRS to grow and diversify training across the maker and manufacturing economies.
