This summer IYRS will host the 3rd Annual Mastering the Craft Summer Series in Newport, RI. The intimate events include conversations of mastery and unprecedented access to makers.
“This is the third year we’ve hosted the series, and it’s a direct result of our relationships with makers, creators, artists and inventors that see younger versions of themselves in IYRS students,” said Terry Nathan, President of IYRS School of Technology and Trades.
During the series, esteemed makers will share the journey of their craft, focusing on the hand-mind-heart and technology connection. Those involved in the 2015 Mastering the Craft series include:
- Rhett Butler, custom hardware maker
- Clint Clemens, photographer
- Warren Barker, boatbuilder and craftsman
- Jeffrey Greene, fine furniture maker
- Eric Goetz, high-tech maker and business pioneer
- Richard “Chip” Benson, builder and restoration expert
Each Mastering the Craft session will occur in the maker’s workshop. A roundtable event will take place in Restoration Hall at IYRS, bringing all of the makers together in an environment that nurtures activity that produces great work.
“Gathering in a small space provides the public and community with access to makers and ground-floor insights of transformative work,” added Nathan.
