IYRS offers a variety of scholarship opportunities annually to those who qualify in the School of Composites Technology, School of Marine Systems, and School of Boatbuilding & Restoration.

Scholarships are earned based on a combination of demonstrated merit and need. Need is determined by the results of the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA). A complete admissions & scholarship application are required to be considered for all IYRS scholarships.

IYRS General Scholarships

IYRS general scholarships are need-based and are granted in amounts ranging from $1,000- $7,500.

IYRS Named & Merit Based Scholarships

The following is a list of the named scholarships currently being offered by IYRS. Selection is based on merit, and your financial need.

  • Van Beuren Charitable Trust Scholarship – $5,000 awarded to a student who is a Rhode Island resident.
  • Antiques & Classic Boat Society Scholarship – $3,000 awarded to a student attending the Boatbuilding & Restoration program.
  • Hope Iselin Goddard Scholarship Fund – $1,500 & up awarded to a female student in the first & second year of the Boatbuilding & Restoration program.
  • Marine Trades Scholarship for Women – $5,000 awarded to a female student pursuing education in the field of marine trades. Special consideration given to women who are entering the field of, or changing careers to, the marine trades and have shown interest in the field through professional or personal pursuits.
  • Composite Technology Scholarship – $5,000 awarded to a student attending the Composite Technology program.
  • Marine Systems Scholarship – $5,000 awarded to a student attending the Marine Systems program.
  • Boatbuilding & Restoration Scholarship – $5,000 awarded to a student entering their second year in the Boatbuilding & Restoration program.
  • Marine Systems (or) Composites Technology 50/50 Scholarship – a student entering either the Marine Systems or Composites Technology program will receive scholarship support equaling 50% of the program’s tuition.
  • Boatbuilding & Restoration 50/50 Scholarship – a student entering the Boatbuilding & Restoration program will receive scholarship support equaling 50% of the program’s tuition.
  • Ddora Foundation Scholarship – $5,000 awarded to each of four students entering their first year in the Boatbuilding & Restoration program.
  • Textron Scholarship – $5,000 awarded to a student entering IYRS, preference is given to minority students.

Local High School Graduate Scholarships*

  • Chariho Area Career & Tech Center – $2,000 awarded to all students entering programs at IYRS who graduated from Chariho Regional High School.
  • Newport Area Career & Tech Center – $2,000 awarded to all students entering programs at IYRS who graduated from Newport Area Career & Tech Center.
  • North Providence High School – $2,000 awarded to all students entering programs at IYRS who graduated from North Providence High School.
  • Warwick Area Career & Tech Center – $2,000 awarded to all students entering programs at IYRS who graduated from Warwick Area Career & Tech Center.
  • Davies Career & Tech High School – $2,000 awarded to all students entering programs at IYRS who graduated from Davies Career & Tech High School.

Organizations, foundations, businesses and individuals also support higher education through scholarship programs. There are a number of excellent free website and search programs to help you locate these scholarship funds. The following sources are options you may want to consider:

  • Leonard W. & Katherine C. Hayward Memorial Scholarship – sponsored by the Seamen’s Church Institute the scholarship supports students of all ages preparing for employment in the maritime occupations who reside in Newport County.
  • Newport Yacht Club Endowment Fund – supports students attending schools focused on the marine trades in and around Newport and the Narragansett Bay area.
